Rob Burrow: Living With MND
BBC2, 7pm
Rob Burrow was long known and admired in rugby league as one of the most effective players the game had ever seen. But at the end of 2019 he revealed that he was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a terrible disease that afflicts the sports' professionals at a far higher rate than the general population.
At the time it was feared that he might have as little as a year left to live but, as this powerful documentary reveals, 40-yearold Burrow (right) is still battling to survive, with the love and constant care of his wife Lindsey – his partner since they were teenagers – and their three young children.
Yet we see how MND has already exacted a devastating toll, reducing this once formidable sporting hero to a skeletal figure who is now almost entirely immobile and unable to communicate through speech unaided. ★★★★★
