England striker Greenwood on rape charges

ENGLAND and Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape and assault after he was arrested on suspicion of breaching his bail conditions.

The 21-year-old was arrested yesterday after reportedly contacting the alleged victim while on bail. Officers had descended on his £15,000-a-month rented mansion in Bowdon, Trafford, over the alleged breach. He will appear in court tomorrow.

Greenwood, who last played for United on January 22, is suspended by the club but still receives his £75,000-a-week salary pending the outcome of any criminal proceedings.

The forward’s promising club and international career is in serious jeopardy.

He was intially arrested in January on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman. He was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

He was later charged with attempted rape of a woman last October, as well as controlling and coercive behaviour and assault causing actual bodily harm last December.
