Cool it, phone addicts told

-

ENDLESSLY scrolling on your phone harms the environment, say experts.

Each search or email creates CO2 emissions as they pass through highspeed data banks processing billions of information requests.

Specialist chillers used to control the heat produced also need vast amounts of energy to power them.

But a Scots company has devised a green solution for serial browsers. Tiny ‘cooling’ devices for servers, developed by Glasgow-based Katrick Technologies, look set to reduce data energy losses by up to 70 per cent.

Founder Karthik Velayutham said: ‘Nobody realises how their scrolling habits affect the environment.’ He said his firm’s devices operate without adding to global power wastage.
