With the new series of Netflix's The Crown coming under fire for its depiction of the then-Prince of Wales, this two-part film makes use of royal archive and interviews to more accurately depict pivotal moments in his life. The first edition explores how an often-absent mother and tough-loving father would influence Charles (right, with the Queen and Prince Edward) and how the sensitive boy grew into a visionary man.

It also revisits the breakdown of his marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales. The scandal nearly brought the royal institution to its knees, and the programme asks how the resulting harsh media spotlight has helped to shape the King. ★★★★★
