Proof that Boy George really does want to be King of the Jungle!

As I’m A Celebrity star arrives in bizarre disguise...

- By Sarah Packer

POP legend Boy George arrived in Australia to take part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – wearing a giant lion mask in an attempt to conceal his identity.

The Karma Chameleon singer, who became the tenth star to touch down at Brisbane Airport for the ITV show, joked that he was there to ‘do a version of the Lion Queen’.

George, 61, is understood to be the highest paid contestant ever to appear on the series, which launched in 2002 – with his pay packet being in excess of £700,000.

And yesterday he hinted that he will refuse to eat any of the creepy crawlies in the show’s Bushtucker Trials because he is a vegan. When asked if he would or not, he said: ‘I love all creatures.’

ITV bosses hope that the singer –real name George Alan O’Dowd – will provide millions of viewers with some ‘golden’ television moments. One said: ‘We very much hope George will be full-on diva and really truly witty. We expect him to be absolutely hilarious.’

Like all the stars, he will spend a week in lockdown before entering into camp where he will be joined by the likes of Royal Family member Mike Tindall, former Radio 1 breakfast DJ Chris Moyles, Loose Women presenter Charlene White and Jill Scott, a member of the Euro-winning Lioness team. The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the group will face the toughest challenges ever. One said: ‘It has been three years since we’ve been to Australia so things are going to get really exciting.

‘Whatever these celebrities have seen on the television before will be nothing compared to what they are actually going to be doing this year.’

I’m A Celebrity was forced to make the show at Gwrych Castle in North Wales in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid pandemic.
