Few shows made such an impact last year as The White Lotus. The debut season of the American drama set in a luxury Hawaiian resort was universally acclaimed for its merciless satire of a group of privileged characters with far more money than sense or decency.

The new series takes us once again to a resort in the White Lotus chain, but this time the setting is Sicily. The scenery may be different but the cruel humour is as rewarding as before in a story where sex and death loom large.

An almost entirely new and superb cast includes Sopranos star Michael Imperioli as an Italian-American desperately trying to reconnect with his roots, while there is one returnee from the first season, wayward heiress Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge, centre, with Haley Lu Richardson), who is as far from being happy as ever. ★★★★★
