Rod makes his Barrowlands debut (at 77!)
WHEN it comes to wearing it well, Sir Rod Stewart has always been a dedicated follower of fashion.
Known for his stylish dress sense on and off the stage, the music icon lit up a dreich November night in Glasgow yesterday with his latest clobber.
Sporting a dazzling floral pattern jacket, Sir Rod, 77, arrived at the Barrowlands to receive an outstanding lifetime achievement award at the Scottish Music Awards.
He said he was thrilled to visit the venue for the first time but confessed it was a travesty he had never performed there before.
As he emerged from his chauffeurdriven people carrier, the Maggie May singer was asked if it was a double celebration – his day had already got off to a winning start after he watched Celtic
win 4-2 at Parkhead in the afternoon. Looking at himself on his phone, Sir Rod said: ‘I need to do something about my hair. I’ve never been to the Barrowlands. I’ve never played here. Isn’t that disgusting?’
Nevertheless, he felt ‘wonderfully, wonderfully drunk at this moment’, explaining: ‘As you know, I’ve got an English accent but I love Scotland.’
He was not the only Scot honoured – Altered Images star Clare Grogan received the Living Legend Award. She said: ‘The last time I was in the Barrowlands I was with my mum, who is no longer with us, so it feels extraordinarily special.’
