‘Death pods’ plea by doc
A SCIENTIST is campaigning for Scotland to take a hi-tech approach to assisted suicide – by using ‘death pods’.
A Bill is being drafted in Holyrood that could legalise assisted dying for people with a terminal illness.
Now a former doctor who campaigns to promote euthanasia has written to Liam McArthur, the Lib Dem MSP behind the Bill, urging him to consider using ‘death pods’ in Scotland.
The suicide pods allow users to settle back, lock themselves in an airtight chamber and then press a button which floods it with nitrogen gas.
Within a minute users are painlessly rendered unconscious – and within ten minutes they are dead.
The pods have been designed by Dr Philip Nitschke, who said: ‘They lead to a peaceful, even euphoric death.’
