How do I plant Anemone blanda corms?

Irene Bray

Anemone blanda corms look A

like large, dried raisins, but go on to produce glorious daisylike flowers in spring. Soak corms in cool water for about six hours before planting in 2in-deep holes, spacing individual corms 8in apart. It’s difficult to determine top from bottom, so just stick them in the ground and shoots will find their way to the surface.

We have two potted

Q rhododendrons in a southfacing position by our house.

Their leaves are going brown at the edges. What are we doing wrong?

Ken O’Neil

Rhododendron foliage will A start to turn brown if plants are stressed. This could be due to wind scorch or waterlogging, but in your case I think that the plants are simply receiving too much sun. Move to a shadier position and they’ll recover.

on the compost heap in autumn, but you can keep plants going from one season to the next. Remove all foliage and any remaining fruit, and cut down all stems to 6in. Move the pot to a light, frost-free place and water occasionally to prevent compost drying out completely. Keep your fingers crossed and the plant should start to regrow in spring.
