Five-try Makinson is star of the show

RUGBY LEAGUE: Five tries from Tommy Makinson ensured that England eased to the semi-finals of the World Cup at the expense of Papua New Guinea yesterday. England won 46-6 in Wigan and Makinson (pictured) was the star of the show as he became the first Englishman to to score five tries for his country in one game. Shaun Wane’s men will play the winners of Tonga’s clash with Samoa, who play today, at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

In front of the Princess of Wales, England put on a stellar show and ran in seven tries in the first 28 minutes. The African nation were simply blown away and trailed 38-0 at the break. Elsewhere, New Zealand beat Fiji 24-18 to reach the semifinals last night.
