WRIGHT WON’T SHOW MERCY TO MENTOR ANDY
SCOTT WRIGHT has a lot to thank Andy Considine for. A mentor and trusted team-mate during his emergence at Aberdeen, Wright will always feel a debt of gratitude to the 35-yearold defender.
Not that the winger wants anyone to think that during Rangers’ Premiership trip to St Johnstone today.
If both are selected, they are likely to find themselves in direct opposition and Wright will mercilessly seek to expose the older man’s age if given the chance.
‘Andy was in the first team when I started to break through at Aberdeen,’ he said. ‘He was a local lad too and great in terms of looking after me.
‘It’s no surprise to me that he’s still playing at the age he is. He’s a great professional and looks after himself.
‘I’m sure he’ll be able to play on for a few more years.
‘But the most important thing for me this weekend is to go to St Johnstone to get the three points.’
Wright echoes manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s view that Rangers must bag a maximum nine points from the three games before the league is put on pause next weekend for the World Cup.
‘It’s all about building momentum in the league now,’ he said. ‘We’ll try to get maximum points. If we can do that and look back when we get to the break, it will be a job well done.’
