She looks fighting fit for new BBC sex series – a far cry from troubling images at LA airport

IT HAS been a turbulent year for Cara Delevingne amid concerns over her wellbeing after her erratic behaviour in public in the summer.

But the supermodel is making a triumphant return as the first images emerged of her hotly awaited new TV series on sex around the globe.

Sporting a dazzling array of outfits, Cara tours the world to explore her sexuality in Planet Sex, the £10million show coming to BBC Three. In one stunning pose, she works a rock ’n’ roll look in a leather jacket as she sits on the bonnet of a Ford Mustang.

The actress and model identifies as ‘openly queer’ and has been romantically linked with Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus and Leonardo DiCaprio. In recent years she has been linked mostly with women, including singer St. Vincent, actress Ashley Benson and singer Leah Mason, known as ‘Minke’.

In a trailer for the show released yesterday Cara said: ‘I date men but, phwoar, do I love women and everyone else. In my own life I definitely had a lot of internalised homophobia and shame.’ Later, at a Pride parade, she exclaims: ‘I’m just living off this queer energy.’

Cara pokes her tongue out as she visits a temple in Tokyo with Japanese LGBTQ advocate Kodo Nishimura, a Buddhist monk and make-up artist. She meets a Syrian refugee in Berlin called The Dervish, who deploys belly-dancing in the battle against homophobia.

A source at Hulu, which co-produced the show with the BBC, told The Mail on Sunday: ‘It is generating a lot of great buzz for Cara in Hollywood. She’s faced some tough times recently but everyone who has seen this new series believes it marks the start of great things for her. The show is a triumph and showcases how open, brave and honest she is, which is a huge part of her appeal to fans. She’s an extremely talented presenter and her warmth and humour shine through.’

There had been concern over Cara after she was seen acting erratically at an airport in Los Angeles in September, prompting speculation of drug abuse. But just days ago she looked a picture of glowing health as she took part in a fashion show in California, hitting the catwalk for Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty line.

The TV documentary was filmed during the pandemic. One executive who saw Cara at a recent appearance in Cannes said: ‘She looked really great. Everyone knows she’s had issues but hopefully those are now in the past. She’s really excited about the new show. It’s the most honest and raw she’s ever been.’

• Planet Sex With Cara Delevingne airs on BBC Three and iPlayer on December 1.
