Has Grimmy closed the book on his friendship with Harry?

THEY were inseparable for six years, occasionally donning matching outfits and even joking about spending Christmas together. So I wonder why DJ Nick Grimshaw hasn’t even mentioned pop heartthrob Harry Styles in his new autobiography.

Grimshaw, 38, drops plenty of other celebrity names into his book – Rihanna, Kate Moss, Amy Winehouse and Sadie Frost all appear – making the omission of the One Direction star particularly surprising.

The duo made headlines after the 2013 Brit Awards when they partied all night before Grimshaw turned up for his early-morning radio show, bringing Styles, 28, into the studio with him.

Grimshaw, known as Grimmy, has talked warmly about their close friendship, once saying: ‘It seems totally normal to me: a DJ being mates with a pop star. When anyone meets him, it’s like, “Oh yeah, he’s really nice and interesting.” And they immediately understand.’

He also said it was their Northern English roots – Styles grew up in Cheshire and Grimshaw in Oldham – that made them firm friends.

‘I don’t know if it’s because we were both Northern and had quite a similar sense of humour and because he was down in London and away from Northerners and friends and family, and we all just ended up hanging out together and getting on,’ the DJ said.

In the book, Soft Lad, which charts Grimshaw’s rise from humble beginnings to become a star on Radio 1, he happily describes boozy nights out with Winehouse which ended back at her house, smoking cigarettes, downing cans of Red Stripe lager and taking turns on her electric sunbed. He also reveals it was a sultry picture of David Beckham soaking in a bath that made him realise he was gay.

But readers hoping for some behind-the-scenes details on his friendship with Styles – and the reason for their apparent sudden froideur – will be disappointed.

It all suggests we’re unlikely to be seeing the pair stepping out in matching outfits again any time soon.
