1 WHITECURRA­NT ‘BLANKA’

From late July into August, this Dutch variety, pictured above, produces bumper crops of large berries with a super-sweet flavour.

2 BLACKCURRA­NT ‘BEN SAREK’

Introduced by the Scottish Crop Research Institute in the late 1990s, this compact type grows to about 4ft in height.

3 BLACKCURRA­NT ‘BIG BEN’

Forming a 5ft-high by 3ft-wide shrub, its berries are about three times the size of other blackcurra­nt varieties.

4 PINKCURRAN­T ‘GLOIRE DE SABLONS’

A heritage variety from France that bears long strings of translucen­t pink berries with a lovely aroma and sweet flavour.

5 REDCURRANT ‘ROVADA’

Bred in Holland, it is renowned for its heavy crops of shiny, plump red fruit that ripen in mid to late summer.
