Maddison ‘okay’ after injury scare

-

JAMES MADDISON showed exactly why Gareth Southgate called him up for England’s World Cup squad by scoring in Leicester’s 2-0 win at West Ham yesterday.

The Foxes midfielder broke the deadlock after just eight minutes at the London Stadium when firing the ball into the top corner past Lukasz Fabianski after good build-up work from Patson Daka.

But the joy suddenly turned into concern when Maddison limped off after 25 minutes through injury after feeling discomfort in his knee when taking a corner.

However, when asked about his knee, Maddison replied: ‘Yes, all good.’

Youri Tielemans missed a penalty but Harvey Barnes sealed victory with a goal on 78 minutes as Leicester moved up to 11th place.

Elsewhere, Gary O’Neil’s impressive interim stint as Bournemouth boss continued with a 3-0 home victory over Everton. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring on 18 minutes and Wales striker Kieffer Moore doubled the lead seven minutes later. Jaidon Anthony rounded off the scoring for the Cherries.

Morgan Gibbs-White scored the only goal of the game as Nottingham Forest moved off the foot of the table with a 1-0 win at home to Crystal Palace.
