Van Bronckhorst is unsure if he’ll keep job after latest flop

and I said many times before that if we keep dropping points I am accountable for that. That is what comes from the job.’

Hamstrung by a long injury list that has left him without a full team’s worth of players, Van Bronckhorst looked on anxiously as 18-year-old defender Leon King become the latest Rangers player forced out of action.

Although he required lengthy treatment after an awkward aerial challenge and was stretchered off in a neck brace, the prognosis was reasonably healthy post-match.

‘I think Leon is at the hospital, so the doctor is going to him now,’ said Van Bronckhorst.

‘He said he was okay, so hopefully, fingers crossed, he will be fine.’

The Dutchman is hoping the break will give others like Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and Tom Lawrence an opportunity to recover full fitness.

But he admits the team’s form will have to significantly improve regardless.

‘We’ve dropped too many points,’ he continued. ‘When you do it against Livingston, St Johnstone and St Mirren, it’s too many.

‘We need to analyse it, of course.

How do we turn it around? We have the squad as it is now and we need to continue with it after the break.

‘It is a five-week break before the next game. Time to reflect and rest and recover and then we have two weeks to prepare for the first game against Hibs.

‘This is the squad we’re working with and in every (transfer) window you see if you can make changes to become stronger.

‘It’s obviously not good enough today to drop points here.’

Yesterday, Rangers fell behind to Jonah Ayunga’s goal soon after half-time and toiled before securing their late reprieve when Ryan Kent was felled in the box and James Tavernier scored from the resultant penalty.

The manager added: ‘We started well, we created chances and were near their box a lot of times. But we lacked the final pass. The one big chance was for Scott Wright, which could have been a goal.

‘It’s always difficult against a deep block. But our rhythm of play and passing had to be faster.

‘We didn’t create a lot of good chances. We tried to get back into the game and eventually we had the penalty, so 1-1.

‘We pushed for the second one but, of course, it is two points dropped.’
