1 ‘ARTHUR BELL’

Named in honour of the Scottish whisky manufactur­er, this repeat-flowering floribunda from the 1960s has yellow, sweetly scented blooms.

2 ‘GABRIEL OAK’

An English shrub rose for a large container, boasting rosette-shaped, deep pink flowers empowered with a strong, fruity aroma.

3 ‘GERTRUDE JEKYLL’

Making its debut in 1986, it makes a 3½ft-tall bush and is clothed with double, bright pink flowers with a romantic old rose fragrance.

4 ‘HOT CHOCOLATE’

Introduced in 2003, this floribunda type grows to about 3ft and produces clusters of smoky brown flowers with a strong scent.

5 ‘ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS’

Growing to about 2½ft in height, it bears clusters of fully double, butter-yellow blooms, below, with a myrrh-like fragrance.
