BRYAN SWANSON, FIFA’s director of media relations, is usually focused on managing the press but he generated headlines of his own yesterday. Once Gianni Infantino had finished his surreal speech about feeling at one with marginalised groups, the Scots tackled Qatar’s treatment of the gay community by addressing his own sexuality. ‘I am sitting here in a privileged position on a global stage as a gay man in Qatar,’ Swanson, who left Sky Sports News last year, said. ‘Just because Gianni Infantino is not gay, does not mean he does not care (about the LGBT community).’
