EMILY BLUNT has revealed she burst into tears over her ordeal on an action movie set – but pulled herself together when co-star Tom Cruise said: ‘Stop being such a pussy.’
Emily, 39, laughed as she recalled his shock reaction when they filmed the 2014 sciencefiction blockbuster Edge Of Tomorrow.
Londoner Emily, who played Sergeant Rita Vrataski, said it was her first action film and she became overwhelmed when she had to put on a heavy, robotic ‘battle suit’.
She told the SmartLess podcast that Top Gun star Cruise, 60, famed for doing his own stunts, was initially unsure how to help her.
She revealed: ‘Tom said, rather unreassuringly, when we started, “This is the deep end for action for me.” I was like, “If you’re saying that, we are in trouble.”
‘We had to wear these enormous, robotic suits, which I think would have been great if we could have CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way. When you hear the word “tactile” you think that sounds nice and cosy. There was nothing cosy about these suits.
‘It was like 85lb [six stone], it was so heavy. The first time I put it on I just started to cry and [Tom] didn’t know what to do.
‘He just stared at me and was like, “I know, I know.” I was like “Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot” and just started to cry. I said, “I’m just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot.”
‘He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, “Come on, stop being such a pussy, OK?”’
Mother-of-two Emily said the curt order helped her to get through filming, though she injured her ribs and collarbone on the set, adding that they were still ‘dodgy’ now.
