MIOTTI THE MARVEL AS WARRIORS ROUT IRISH

- By Dave Murphy Coombes, Casey, Wycherley, Nash. Carbery (2), Crowley. Glasgow — Tries: Brown, McDowall, Miotti, Forbes, Vailanu. Cons: Miotti (5). Drop goal: Miotti.

A TRY, a drop goal and five flawless conversions from Domingo Miotti led Glasgow Warriors to a memorable victory at Thomond Park.

Franco Smith’s side had most of the work done by half-time in Limerick as tries from Fraser Brown, Stafford McDowall, Miotti and Cole Forbes powered them to a 28-0 lead over a stunned Munster.

There was a retort from the Irish side after the break as Gavin Coombes and Craig Casey both touched down in the space of five minutes, but Sione Vailanu’s try just after an hour, added to

Miotti’s earlier drop goal removed any doubt about the outcome.

Defeat means Munster now trail fourth-placed Warriors by six points in the standings, and with just two games remaining in the pool stages, the Scots look set for home advantage in the play-offs.

While Warriors were emphatic in their attacking play in the first half, they were helped along the way by Munster’s error count.

The brilliant Brown started the scoring off a driving lineout and Miotti’s conversion gave Warriors an early 7-0 lead.

Brown was involved again for Warriors’ second when he sent McDowall through some poor Munster tackling to make it 14-0.

Warriors then hit the home side with an intense five minutes which ended in Miotti stretching to score his side’s third try.

That score seemed to raise Munster’s intensity, and a great break from Calvin Nash put them on the front foot, but after battering the Warriors line for a number of phases, some poor handling cost the home side.

And Warriors weren’t near finished either. Their bonus-point try came before the break when Forbes rounded off a flowing move with a stunning score. A stunned Thomond Park saw their side trailing 28-0 at the break.

It was no shock to see a livelier start to the half from Munster, but once again it was the visitors that made the most of their chances when Miotti moved back and landed a drop goal.

Munster finally got off the mark when Coombes scored off a powerful lineout maul in the 53rd minute. It took only five minutes for the home side to cross again when Ireland international Casey crossed from close range following Jack O’Donoghue carry.

But another error from the restart set Glasgow up again, and Vailanu took the steam out of the Irish comeback to seal the win just after the hour.

Replacement Josh Wycherley scored Munster’s third try of the half, but the Warriors lead was too great to give the home side any real hope.

However, Munster’s best player Nash scored in the corner late on to claim the bonus-point try. SCORERS; Munster — Tries:
