Davidson warns his Saints sinners after

WHO knew a card on your birthday could end up in such dismay and frustration?

Andy Considine stepped out to face his old club Aberdeen yesterday afternoon celebrating 36 years on God’s green earth and, within three minutes, realised someone had left his cake out in the rain.

The Saints defender was caught out as Bojan Miovski moved across him to chase after a loose ball, appeared to stretch out his arm and saw the North Macedonian striker crumple to the turf in spectacular fashion.

After initially giving a penalty, referee Colin Steven changed his mind when viewing a pitchside replay at the invitation of the VAR — and in awarding a free-kick at the very edge of the area instead, left himself little option but to send Considine packing.

There were three minutes on the clock at the time of the initial foul. Six by the time Considine was on his way off. It certainly left the home side behind the eight-ball and an own goal from keeper Remi Matthews on the half-hour proved to be enough for the Dons.

Saints boss Callum Davidson would not be drawn into Considine’s expulsion, but warned his players to be more careful after a fourth red card in their last eight fixtures.

‘It’s a difficult one,’ he said. ‘We would rather have given the penalty away and

Andy stayed on the pitch because we ended up playing 92 minutes with ten men.

‘I’ve not seen it yet. He (Steven) was quick to give the penalty when it was outside the box, so there’s the wrong decision. And I thought some of the bookings… well, I’m not going to start, actually.

‘I’d rather talk about the reaction we got from the players because I wasn’t happy with the way we started at Killie in the last game.

‘It’s disappointing we didn’t get anything from the game. As it wore on, Aberdeen got nervous, we limited them and created chances. It’s just a pity we didn’t take one.

‘That’s 150 minutes out of 180 in the last two home games we’ve played with 10 men, though. We can’t get players sent off early and give ourselves long afternoons.’
