Cracking news for Easter Sunday... it will be as hot as the Greek islands
SCOTLAND could be as hot as the Greek islands today as temperatures soar to as high as 16C (61F) for the Bank Holiday weekend.
Forecasters say the mercury could rise this afternoon to more than five degrees above average for the start of April.
After Scots enjoyed a bright, warm day yesterday, temperatures will increase again, according to the Met Office.
At 16C, parts of Scotland could be treated to weather conditions on a par with the holiday hotspot of Crete.
Forecaster Dan Stroud said: ‘You
‘Highest temperature recorded so far this year’
should be looking at around 10C (50F) for the early part of April but most places in Scotland were around 15C (59F) on Saturday.
‘Easter Sunday should be a little bit warmer, with winds coming from the south and the east. I would expect 16C (61F) is possible in the afternoon.’
The Met Office said other areas of Britain could be even hotter than Greece today as a band of high pressure moving across the UK brings a spell of glorious sunshine.
The 18C (64F) being forecast could be warmer than several sunbaked Greek islands including Santorini, Mykonos and Crete.
It would also beat the highest temperature recorded in the UK so far this year of 17.8C, registered on March 30 in the village of Santon Downham, Suffolk.
Most of the country will enjoy the good weather except for Northern Ireland, where cloud is expected. It comes as an estimated two million British holidaymakers headed overseas at the weekend, according to travel trade organisation Abta.
Those who stayed at home should make the most of today’s sunshine as rain will hit the west coast tonight.
Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said: ‘Rain spreads east across other areas into Monday, with showers following.’
