Job isn’t done for Robson after rising to third

- By Brian Marjoribanks

BARRY ROBSON last night warned Aberdeen they have achieved nothing yet after watching his side storm up to third in the Premiership.

Goals in either half from Luis ‘Duk’ Lopes — his first coming after just 16 seconds — secured a 2-0 home win over Kilmarnock as the

Dons leapfrogged Hearts.

But interim Pittodrie boss Robson insisted thinking about finishing as the best of the rest just now would be premature.

He said: ‘I’m not getting carried away because we have not achieved anything. I will sit down at the end of the season and see where we are at. Then I can maybe get carried away, but until then nothing changes. We move on to the next game against Ross County.

‘I have been in this game so long that I know what’s round the corner. I know what can happen if you take your foot off the gas.

‘I’m sure that (third) is where this club wants to be.

Hearts, Hibs, everyone else wants to be there, too. But there’s a long way to go.’

While Duk was the goalscoring star, Robson paid tribute to his unsung heroes in his defence as they blunted yet another team’s attack.

He said: ‘We got a clean sheet again, and that’s four out of five. Better coaches and managers than me will tell you that you can’t be a good attacking team until you’re a good defensive team — that’s a fact. And I thought we were that today.’

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes was left lamenting his side’s early concession and a lack of composed finishing in comparison to his clinical former club.

He said: ‘It was an horrendous start for us but you have to applaud the finish by Duk.

‘He is in really good form, and his finish was different class.

‘But it was not the start we were looking for. The players looked shocked — we all did.

‘We didn’t recover from that in the first 15 minutes. It unnerved us but the back end of the first half I thought we were the better team and half-time came at the wrong time for us.

‘But we helped Aberdeen on their way to the second goal. It was a poor decision to make a crossfield pass and it was cut out and Duk scores.

‘We had chances in the game but ultimately we have not taken them and Aberdeen were good for their 2-0 victory.’
