HOLT AT THE DOUBLE AS AYR ARE BLOWN AWAY BY GOODWIN’S SIDE

DUNDEE UNITED moved up to second in the Championsh­ip after recording a convincing 3-0 win away to Ayr United.

Jim Goodwin’s side turned on the style at Somerset Park with three second-half goals.

The visitors had dominated the game but had to wait until 58 minutes to break the deadlock when Kevin Holt headed home Declan Glass’ corner.

The lead was doubled four minutes later when Louis Moult dinked a smart finish over Ayr goalkeeper Charlie Albinson.

Holt grabbed his second and United’s third with a close-range strike to ensure a seven-point haul from their first three games for Goodwin’s side.

Elsewhere, Partick Thistle picked up their first league win of the season after defeating early pacesetter­s Queen’s Park 3-1 at Firhill.

Kilmarnock loanee Kerr McInroy opened the scoring for Thistle in the 26th minute and Brian Graham doubled the adavantage for Kris Doolan’s side four minutes later.

Ruari Paton halved the deficit in the 32nd minute with his third league goal of the season. However, McInroy sealed victory for Thistle just inside the hour-mark.

Airdrieoni­ans bagged back-toback second-tier wins after following up a 2-1 win over Partick Thistle by clinching the same result against Inverness Caley Thistle in Lanarkshir­e.

A Cameron Harper own goal inside 60 seconds gave the Diamonds a dream start and Calum Gallagher doubled the lead on 32 minutes.

Inverness, who are bottom after losing their first three matches, responded with a second-half Nathan Shaw consolatio­n.

Arbroath picked up their first win of the season in impressive style as Dick Campbell’s side claimed a 3-0 victory at Morton.
