Hibs look to get back on track

- By James Melville

HIBERNIAN aim to feed off the experiences gleaned at Villa Park in midweek as they travel to Pittodrie for what could prove to be caretaker boss David Gray’s final match in charge today.

As reported by Mail Sport over the weekend, the Easter Road club have asked Australian side Central Coast Mariners to name their price for manager Nick Montgomery as they seek to make the former Scotland Under-21 midfielder their new manager following the sacking of

Lee Johnson.

The 41-year-old is hot property after leading Mariners — and former Easter Road striker Jason Cummings — to the A-League championship earlier this year.

With interviews expected to take place this week, the capital club will look to get their season on track at Pittodrie today following their winless start to the campaign. And striker Christian Doidge says the players do have positives to draw on despite rounding off an 8-0 aggregate defeat against John McGinn and Co on Thursday night.

‘To go to Aston Villa, we were able to give the Hibs fans an experience they probably haven’t had for a long time,’ said Doidge. ‘We all enjoyed it and we’ve got to push now in the league and try and make it a regular occurrence.

‘We were playing against a high-quality side but they probably didn’t get in as much as they would have liked. We were compact and hard to play through.

‘The Aberdeen game’s going to be completely different. It’s always a hard game when you go up there but I think we’ve got enough in the changing room to get a good result.’
