Family steeped in battalion history
SIR WOULD you kindly spare some space to publish this memory about my late husband?
He was born in Bucknall in 1925. His grandfather, David Lowe, and grandfather’s brother, Samuel Lowe, both fought in the First World War in Mesopotamia.
My husband Fred, who was a policeman in the Staffordshire constabulary, never knew either of them, but we know that they were part of the 7th battalion of the North Staffs and are named on a plaque in Hanley Town Hall.
Due to the region’s boundary changes, we had to move to Walsall, but our family is steeped in the history of the North Staffs. VERA CANNELL Walsall
