‘An honour to see pupils involved’

-

I HAVE recently attended the Armistice Day openair commemoration at Packmoor Ormiston Academy.

It was an honour to see a very well organised and presented service.

About 450 young pupils walked out in perfect order to gather around the Millennium Green. An introduction and opening by The Reverend Ling Yu Ji was followed by the act of remembrance – which included the Last Post played electronically – and the exhortation was read out by the head pupil.

Full marks must given to the pupils during the twominute silence.

Poppy wreaths were laid by the Royal British Legion, the Grenadier Guards, Staffordshire Regiment, Ormiston Horizon Academy, Watermill School, and by the Principal Mrs May together with the head boy and head girl on behalf of Packmoor Ormiston Academy.

Finally there was the placing of 11 red balloons around the monument on the Millennium Green.

There were many poppies around this service, but one display in particular was of poppies individually made by the pupils.

Very well done to all who took part. ROY COOPER BIGNALL END
