Fire­fight­ers were called to a blaze at a city in­dus­trial site that saw the A500 closed. Crews from Han­ley, Long­ton and New­cas­tle were sent to Whiel­don Road, Fen­ton, after re­ports a trailer had caught fire be­fore spread­ing to a nearby build­ing. A Stafford­shire Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice spokesman said the calls came at about 8.20pm yes­ter­day. He added: “We have had 85 calls in to­tal. The in­ci­dent is lo­cated near to the A500, which has now been closed in both di­rec­tions.” Sen­tinel read­ers re­ported loud bangs and feel­ing shakes as far away as Stoke fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent. One said: “It sounded like ex­plo­sions and a fire around the Mount Pleas­ant area. Large enough bangs to shake my house.”
