What happens in Vegas

-

PICK OF THE DAY

BRAVING the frontlines of excess, TV couple Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford head to Vegas, the jaw-dropping city of sin. It’s an extraordinary place of luxury and decadence where, every year, 40 million people spend around $35 billion.

“What can you do for us?” Ruth asks their fixer, who replies: “Anything you can think of that’s legal.”

The presenters check in to the Palms, a resort that has outrageous themed apartments – one is 10 times the size of the average UK house and has its own basketball court.

They also visit the luxury suite at the Wynn, where Prince Harry famously had a wild weekend before heading to Afghanistan.

Later, there’s eye-popping gluttony at the Heart Attack Grill, which is adorned with signs like: “Taste worth dying for.” Eamonn and Ruth order the Octuple Bypass burger and butter pat shake. “It’s obscene,” says Eamonn. Elsewhere they meet magician Penn Jillette, who holds the record for the longest running Vegas residency, performing in Penn & Teller for more than 20 years. They meet other largerthan-life characters, including super rich couple Matt and Kimberley (she drinks water infused with diamonds), Tempest Storm, a former girlfriend of Elvis, and a high-rolling gambler so good he’s been banned from most casinos. And of course there’s a visit to The Little White Wedding Chapel which marries 120,000 couples a year.

Utterly bonkers, shamelessly over-the-top and with bad taste everywhere you look, Eamonn and Ruth aren’t fans, but they have fun trying it out for size.
