WOMAN WAS SO DRUNK SHE DIDN’T RECALL STREET FIGHT
She also abused passers-by at bus station
DRUNKEN Natasha Walters had to be restrained by security officers after she caused a disturbance at a bus station.
The 28-year-old verbally abused members of the public and staff at Hanley Bus Station.
Magistrates heard she was ‘intoxicated’ at the time and could not remember her actions.
Prosecutor Ruth Bentley said: “A report was made to the police about a lady being abusive to members of the public and security officers.
“Police arrived and the defendant was using foul and abusive language.
“She had a fight with an unknown female in the street.
“Police say the defendant was so aggressive she had to be restrained by security staff until officers arrived.
“She was shouting and swearing in the public domain, and would not cease to use foul language.”
Walters was arrested and went on to plead guilty to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour in a public place. The court heard her last conviction was in July, when she received a prison sentence for possessing a knife.
Walters, who gave her address as The George Hotel in Burslem, said she did not remember having the fight in the street.
Rebecca Dulson, mitigating, said: “The defendant has very little recollection of what occurred on this occasion due to her intoxication.
“She fully accepts the Crown’s case.
“She has a number of difficulties. She’s had a very difficult upbringing, has learning difficulties and suffers with her mental health.
“Sometimes she drinks to excess in order to block out the thoughts she has. She is currently homeless.”
North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard Walters had been engaging with the Probation Service since she had been released from prison on licence, and was engaging with services to gain assistance for her difficulties.
Magistrates handed her a 12-month conditional discharge, which means she will not be punished if she stays out of trouble for the next year.
She was also ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.
