POLICE were called to deal with collisions, with vehicles also getting stranded on ice as Storm Deirdre hit the region.
Temperatures plummeted on Saturday with heavy rain also coming down.
Several vehicles were involved in accidents or became stranded on ice in the Staffordshire Moorlands on Saturday, with police in the area warning of extreme weather in areas including Morridge Top.
Outdoor markets in Leek were cancelled on Saturday but the Sunday Supplement was able to go ahead.
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team also responded to a couple and their dogs who had become stranded on sheet ice near the Moorlands border with Derbyshire off the A53. The team was called out on Saturday at about 3.30pm, with rescuers wearing microspikes to reach them.
Roads including the A54 between Buxton and Bosley was shut on Saturday with several fallen trees also reported elsewhere in Cheshire.
Both Staffordshire County Council and Cheshire East Council confirmed they had gritting teams out at the weekend.
The Met Office is predicting a bright start in the Potteries today before rain is expected from around 4pm. There will be a high temperature of 7C.
