How will this make us great again?
I MUST confess to having a “smile on my dial” when I ponder the possibility of the EU referendum vote being turned into a general election result.
The political party that so enchanted us and forged the way for that EU exit result, jubilant with success, morphed itself into offering the possibility of Nigel Farage as Prime Minister and Paul Nuttall as Chancellor. What a combo that might have been. We’d definitely have got an extra £350 million a week for our NHS! What a shame they’ve done a runner after spending so long enjoying the lavish wealth provided by that corrupt institution they fought so long to destroy.
I’m not sure they would have been any more “strong and stable” than the lot we now have, or have done much to influence the global tides that have swept away 7,000 jobs at Royal Doulton, closed thousands of jobs at Shelton Steel and local collieries, or the 11,000 washed away with BHS, the 22,000 sunk in the closure of retail outlets this year or indeed those of Carillion workers.
I’ve never understood how wrecking our relations with our nearest and largest trading nations would make Little Britain great again. I’ve come to the conclusion my best option will be to sit down on a clear night under a bright moon and have a word with it – to see if it will change its orbit to facilitate less troublesome tides.
