AGGRESSIVE Daniel Tweedie told the woman who helped cover up his cousin’s death – ‘I’m going to kill you’ – while wielding a weapon.

The 30-year-old had travelled more than 60 miles to a store in Silverdale after discovering where Karen Redshaw was working after she relocated to North Staffordshire.

Stoke-on-trent Crown Court heard she had been jailed for seven years back in 2003 for perverting the course of justice following the death of George Tweedie.

Prosecutor Richard Mcconaghy said: “Tweedie learnt of Ms Redshaw’s whereabouts and travelled to North Staffordshire on April 11 this year with two others to confront her, bringing what resembled a pistol.

“Her ex-partner saw a car travelling past the shop at 7.10pm and wondered if it was a customer. But 20 minutes later the car slowed along Cheddar Drive.”

The court heard Tweedie began shouting ‘I’m George’s cousin and you murdered him’ as well as ‘I’m going to ******* kill you’ before he pulled the imitation weapon out of the car.

Mr Mcconaghy added: “A female in the car, who was his partner, got out and tried to prevent Tweedie from doing anything further, as the male tried to persuade him not to do anything.

“The police firearms unit stopped Tweedie in Warwickshire and he was arrested. It was then discovered the gun fired air pellets and the chamber was empty.”

Tweedie, of Eversleigh Road in Coventry, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm.

Samina Rashid, mitigating, told the court her client was now employed as a delivery driver and asked the judge to spare him from an immediate jail sentence.

Judge Paul Glenn said the circumstances surrounding George Tweedie’s death had a ‘significant impact’ on Tweedie and his family.

He sentenced him to 15 months in jail, suspended for 18 months, and ordered him to undergo 20 days of rehabilitation activities, and complete 180 hours of unpaid work.

He told Tweedie: “I can understand why you were so upset, but your reaction was significant and you were not thinking properly.

“You turned up as Karen Redshaw and her ex-partner were locking up the shop and introduced yourself as George’s cousin before shouting threats.

“You produced the weapon and they believed it was a genuine weapon and that you were going to carry out the threats.

“One witness even described you as manic.”

Tweedie was handed an indefinite restraining order against Redshaw and her former partner. The judge also ordered the imitation to be destroyed.
