COUPLE Maddie and Amy Walker are looking to breathe fresh life into a town centre pub after re-opening the venue.

Congleton’s Beartown Cock closed this year but is now back open for business with two young landladies at the helm.

Maddie, aged 23, and 25-year-old Amy have outlined their vision for the Lawton Street pub, including plans to redecorate the venue and introduce a food menu.

They have a wide range of drinks on sale with five lagers – Stella Artois, Bud Light, Becks Vier, Carlsberg and Stella 4 Per Cent –; four beers – Bass, Boddingtons, Tetley and IPA; two hand pulls and two ciders as well as bottled beers.

Maddie, aged 23, said: “We want to do a bit of everything for everyone. We have some acts booked in. We have a band in on New Year’s Eve and a singer in on December 21.

“We will be decorating the pub in the New Year and we plan to sell good pub grub.”

The dog-friendly pub has a big screen showing Sky Sports and BT Sports, a pool table and a games machine. There is a darts board and a pool table, which costs 50 pence per game – although the first one is on the house.

And there is a large beer garden and a smoking shelter at the back.

Maddie added: “We plan to have barbecues in the summer. We will also be having prize bingo nights and karaoke.

“I have played rugby for 16 years and I am hoping to set up a men’s and women’s rugby team.”

Amy, aged 25, added: “I have been in the pub trade a couple of years.

“We are delighted to be here in Congleton.

“We are excited about the plans we have got for the pub. It is going really well since we opened and I am confident we will make a success of it. We can’t wait to get out teeth into it.”

The reopening of the pub has been welcomed by customers.

Barry Selby, aged 52, of Congleton, said: “I am pleased it has reopened. It was shut too long. I have used the pub for quite a while. It used to be my local so I have had to use somewhere else. It should get a good crowd in.”

Sharon Wilson, aged 47, of Congleton, said: “The pub has been missed. Everyone seems impressed with it.” Kelly Donnelly, aged 36, of Congleton, added: “I am glad it is open again. I think the new landladies will do well.”

The pub is open seven days a week, from noon to midnight Sunday to Thursday and 1am on Friday and Saturday.
