IT was a horrible day to watch football and the fare on offer was not exactly the best for those who did brave the elements. I thought we started well with a well-worked goal for Monty. Then Luke Hannant missed a chance to make it 2-0 which surely would have seen us to a win. After that, though, we seemed to lose confidence a bit and Cheltenham played the better football without threatenin­g too much. Their first goal was a rare mistake by Scott Brown and the second poor defending. It took us until the 93rd minute to deliver a decent set-piece and Antony Kay thankfully made the most of it to claim a deserved draw. We aren’t exactly making the most of a run of games against supposed strugglers and Macclesfie­ld are up next. We need a win there. On the plus side, though, we are four without defeat having rattled in 11 goals.

PHIL SHERWIN, Burslem FOR the second week running we relied on a late equaliser to rescue a point, and Anthony Kay was pivotal on both occasions. The hardy souls who braved the elements must have thought we were in for a good afternoon as Christian Montano gave us an early lead with a superbly-worked goal followed by Luke Hannant having the chance to double the advantage. However, Cheltenham were moving the ball well and the Vale were slow in closing down space, meaning that Nigel Atangana and Chris Clements had all the time in the world to run the game. Vale’s defending was poor for both goals, but throughout the team performanc­es were below par. Apart from scoring his goal, Montano failed to show much and Connell Rawlinson had a poor game. Hopefully, Vale’s form will improve before the weather.
