ANT-MAN (2015) (BBC1, 7.50PM)

-

Ferdinand the bull (voiced by John Cena) is adopted as an oversized pet by a girl called Nina (Katie Silverman) and her family. During a visit to the local market, the fun-loving beast accidentally sits on a bee. A sharp sting causes him to rear up and locals flee in terror. Police deem Ferdinand a public menace and he is consigned to the Casa Del Toro to await a grim fate in the bull ring. An old goat called Lupe (Kate Mckinnon) is enlisted as Ferdinand’s trainer so he is fit to face legendary matador El Primero (Miguel Angel Silvestre). Based on the children’s book The Story Of Ferdinand, Carlos Saldanha’s computer-animated comedy is an undemanding journey of selfdiscovery about a Spanish fighting bull, who prefers to smell the roses rather than stomp on them.

Cat burglar Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is released from San Quentin Penitentiary and, desperate to pay child support, agrees to a lucrative heist set up by his former cellmate (Michael Pena). Unfortunately, the robbery lands Scott in a police cell. Inventor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) offers Scott a way out if he agrees to don a superhero outfit, which shrinks the wearer at the touch of a button. Ant-man is a boisterous action adventure, anchored by a winning performance of charm from Rudd.

ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (2013) (CHANNEL 4, 9PM)

Chauvinistic television newsman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) falls on hard times until producer Freddy Schap (Dylan Baker) invites him to join the ranks of New York City’s first 24-hour station, Global News Network (GNN). The rejuvenated big man and his team jump into a campervan bound for the Big Apple. Against the odds, Ron achieves record ratings. Anchorman 2 is more hit-and-miss affair than the first film, but it still has its moments and Ferrell and co are clearly having blast.
