‘Evidence points to intelligent creator’

-

RECENTLY, a letter to your newspaper was brought to my attention which attacked Christian faith.

Unfortunately, because I’m registered blind, I rarely hear about the letters in your paper, and the relevant letter was printed back on October 20.

In this letter, an atheist (Derek Payne) was attacking an assertion of a Christian (Ian Gregory) because he said his position was based on “faith”.

Mr Payne said: “Ian Gregory makes his claims with no definite evidence to back it up; therefore his assertions are purely based on faith.” And: “Faith is not a reliable pathway to the truth.”

Presumably, as an atheist, Mr Payne believes in a purely natural cause of life. So, is he prepared to apply the same standards of logic to his own “faith” position? Or does he somehow feel he is exempt?

There are tens of thousands of languages, thousands of code systems and billions of pieces of information existing in our world. In each case, where we can identify where these phenomena come from, the originating source is always an intelligent mind.

So what’s my point? Well, all living organisms contain something called DNA. DNA contains a language, a code system, and in humans, billions of letters of information.

Maybe Mr Payne would like to share with us how much observable evidence he has to prove which non-intelligent source the language, code and information within DNA came from in his supposed first living organism.

In the absence of any such evidence, Mr Payne’s belief in a purely natural cause of life is entirely a faith based position. Given the stance he takes in his criticism of Christians for their faith, perhaps he should reject his own belief system based on his own standards.

DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid. But that’s way too hard to remember. It’s much easier to remember that DNA stands for Definitely No Accident!

When it comes to the origin of life, the observable evidence is strongly in favour of an intelligent creator, not natural processes. TONY GREEN LEEK
