TWO MEN DEAD AFTER WEEKEND COLLISIONS

Fatal road traffic accidents occurred in Draycott and Stafford

TWO men have died following two separate road traffic accidents in Staffordsh­ire.

Motorcycli­st Martin Barker was left critically injured following a collision with a car on the A521 Uttoxter Road in Draycott-in-the-moors, at around 5.15pm on Friday.

Mr Barker, aged 50, from Stokeon-trent, died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital on Saturday morning.

And a 20-year-old man was seriously injured after his car left the A518, between Haughton and Stafford, and hit a tree, at 6.25pm on Saturday. He was also taken to the Royal Stoke, where he died on Sunday.

Staffordsh­ire Police are appealing for informatio­n about both incidents.

Mr Barker was riding a red Kawasaki motorbike in the direction of Blythe Bridge, when he came into collision with a grey Audi A5.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a red Kawasaki motorcycle and a grey Audi A5 on the A521 near Chandni Cottage at around 5.15pm on Friday.

“Sadly the motorcycli­st, Martin Barker, aged 50, from Stoke-on-trent, died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital on Saturday morning.

“Paramedics had carried out emergency treatment at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where despite the efforts of medical staff, he sadly died.

“Specialist officers are supporting the family.”

PC Matt Lovatt added: “This is a wellused road and anyone who may have dashcam footage around when the collision occurred is asked to contact us.”

Mr Barker’s friends have left tributes to him on Stoke-on-trent Live’s Facebook page.

Laura Lowe wrote: “Martin will be sadly missed by us, his colleagues and his friends and family. RIP Martin.”

Marissa Henderson said: “RIP Map, your generosity, love and support will never be forgotten.”

The accident on the A518, near The Villa Cattery, involved one vehicle, a black Vauxhall Corsa, which had been travelling towards Haughton.

A police spokesman said: “We were called to a road traffic collision on the A518 between Haughton and Stafford involving a black Vauxhall Corsa which left the road near The Villa Cattery and collided with a tree.

“Anyone who saw the vehicle beforehand or who may have relevant dashcam footage is asked to call the police.”

Anyone with informatio­n about the Draycott collision should contact Staffordsh­ire Police on 101, quoting incident 474 of January 11. Witnesses who have informatio­n about the A518 crash should call 101 and quote incident 609 of January 12.
