DISTRAUGHT Dorothy Venn is appealing for help after her beloved pet was given to the wrong person by cattery staff – and went missing.

Dorothy left cats Katie and Sox at the cattery when she went on holiday last month – but returned to discover Sox, had been mistakenly given to another owner.

The mix-up wasn’t noticed and Sox, pictured, was then released into a garden, and hasn’t been seen since.

Now, families in Calton, Waterhouses and nearby villages are being urged to look out for the missing cat.

Sox is black with four white paws, whiskers and chest and was adopted from

Cheadle Animal Welfare Society in 2014. He lives with Dorothy in Leek.

She became aware of the error on September 5. Because of Covid-19 regulations, the cats are brought out to owners when they come to pick them up.

Before the error was noticed, Sox was taken to Calton, released into a garden and went missing.

Dorothy said: “I have been to Calton nearly every day for the last three weeks looking for him. I have also put posters up in the area. Hopefully someone will see him and contact me.”

Cheadle Animal Welfare Society is now helping Dorothy try to find Sox.

A spokeswoman said: “When the owner went to collect them following her holiday one of the cats had been handed over to someone else.

“This person never checked it was her cat, took it home and let it out in the garden. It was only then that she realised the cat she had taken home wasn’t hers.

“His owner is very angry and absolutely distraught and is doing everything possible to get him back.

“Sox lives in Leek and is not used to being out of doors for such a long period of time.

“People living in the village of Calton and surrounding areas are asked to look out for him. He is neutered and microchipped and must be feeling very bewildered and scared.”

Anyone who sees a cat matching Sox’s description is asked to ring 01538 373147 or 07891 086737.
