THE grieving parents of a ‘gorgeous’ 17-year-old killed in a crash are ‘living a life sentence’ as a teenage driver has been prosecuted over their daughter’s death.

The loved-ones of Georgia Ogden were unable to attend the court hearing due to the coronavirus pandemic.

They would have seen her 18-year-old friend Millie Beard sentenced after she admitted causing Georgia’s death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Georgia, from Congleton, was killed when the car she was travelling in was in collision with a lorry on the A34 through Astbury last June. A shrine remains at the scene of the collision at the junction of Newcastle Road and Peel Lane.

In a statement following the court proceedings, Georgia’s family said: “We are absolutely heartbroken that neither us or any representatives for us got the opportunity to hear the sentencing which would have helped us possibly move forward.

“However, no sentence will ever be enough because nothing will ever bring our gorgeous Georgia back. The devastating reality is that we are the ones living with a sentence, a life sentence, without our beautiful, loving, caring, sassy daughter Georgia in our lives.

“We are so truly devastated by the whole thing and the events that have followed since.”

Beard and a second passenger in the Suzuki Swift needed treatment at the Royal Stoke University Hospital after being seriously injured in the smash.

The defendant, of Pine Way, Congleton, admitted the charge when she appeared at Crewe Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates banned her from driving for two years. She was also sentenced to a community order which includes a sixmonth curfew from 7pm to 7am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. She must also pay costs and a surcharge totalling £180.
