SHOPPERS CAUGHT IN CAR PARK ‘MADNESS’

A500 roadworks leaves motorists stuck for over 3 hours

ROADWORKS have caused chaos for hundreds of shoppers at a popular retail park – with some waiting up to three-and-a-half hours to get off.

The roadworks on the A500 roundabout caused massive problems for people trying to get in and out of Wolstanton Retail Park on Thursday.

Many were trying to get to Asda to pick up last-minute shopping before the start of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

The roadworks are expected to remain until September 2022.

Now people have told of their nightmare journeys.

Danielle Longmore said she had to abandon her car. She said:

“I had to leave my car on the car park and walk to work.

“I needed to get to work and knew there was no chance as I couldn’t even get to a parking space as I was static for most of the time I was there.

“I was stuck there for 50 minutes and didn’t even get to do my shopping. Absolute joke.”

Mandy Lambert said there were lots of rude people around. She added: “I was at a standstill for 35 minutes and I had to try to get out of the car park.

“Eventually left there after 45 minutes and I won’t be going back there in a hurry.”

Emma Hodson said: “I arrived at 12.50pm and managed to escape the madness at 4.15pm. It was horrendous.”

Karen Worrell said: “It took me over an hour to get off the car park. Roadworks scheduled to 2022? I don’t think I will be shopping there for a good while.”

Steph Sedgers said it took her two-and-a-half hours to get off the Asda car park.

Katie Latham said: “I called to go to the cashpoint. What a joke - I ended up leaving my car and walking. It’s the place to avoid. Will not be going again anytime soon.”
