POLICE MAKE TWO ARRESTS AFTER UNEXPLAINED DEATH OF CITY MAN
Probe continues after body found at bail hostel
DETECTIVES are treating the death of a 33-year-old man as ‘unexplained’.
They have arrested two men on suspicion of manslaughter as they continue to investigate the sudden death of Carl Sheldon.
Details of the police investigation have emerged after an inquest was this week opened and adjourned into Carl’s death.
His body was discovered at the Wharf Lane House bail hostel, on Rectory Road, Shelton, on March 8.
North Staffordshire senior coroner Andrew Barkley said: “He was found slumped on the floor in his room at Wharf Lane House.
“He had last been seen at 1pm on March 8. We have expressed our concerns to the police.”
The inquest has now been adjourned until May 27 to give Staffordshire Police more time as they try to establish what happened to Carl over a 10-hour period.
Mr Barkley added: “Our concerns are what happened between 1pm and 11pm. The hostel had not been to check on him – they should have done.
“I am adjourning the inquest. It will be resumed in this court on May 27.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service raised the alarm after being called to the hostel shortly after 11pm on March 8. The result of any postmortem examination has not been disclosed.
A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to a property on Rectory Road shortly after 11pm on Monday, March 8 by colleagues at the ambulance service reporting a man in cardiac arrest. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“An investigation is now underway with detectives currently treating the death as unexplained. Two men
– aged 27 and 42 and from Stokeon-trent – have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. Both have been released under investigation.”
