A NEW children’s play area has opened in one of North Staffordshire’s biggest parks.

The toddler and junior play area as well as a games area have been created on the site of three tennis courts within Brough Park in Leek.

It features an ‘Adventure on the Roaches’ area and is billed as ‘the number one destination for explorers’.

It follows the installation of a skate park last year. The old children’s playground will be turned into a tennis court.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has carried out the improvements.

Now families are thrilled with the new facilities.

Sam Farnell, aged 35, of Leek, said: “We live very close to the park and have watched the construction from the start. We were surprised at how fast it went up.

“When it opened on Thursday my daughters, Maisey and Lola, couldn’t wait to enjoy it so we headed straight round. There is plenty for all ages and both my girls loved it.

“Maisey enjoyed climbing on ‘The Roaches’ climbing rocks and Lola loved the different swings.

“This is something Brough Park has been desperate for and hopefully something that all children can enjoy over the summer. We’re particularly looking forward to meeting friends there soon.”

Sue Bible has already taken her three youngest boys – Cobi, aged two; Kaden, aged five; and eightyear-old Callen – to the new play area.

The 36-year-old, from Leek, said: “They were all thrilled with the variety of the equipment. They each tried everything out and after being there for over an hour they were all playing together. The train and painted track was Cobi’s favourite and kept him busy for ages. The older ones loved all the climbing walls and ropes.

“I loved that it felt lovely and secure and it’s great that we live just five minutes away.”
