BINS NOT EMPTIED FOR TWO MONTHS
Fed-up families want rubbish removed
REFUSE bosses are refusing to empty overflowing bins from outside a terraced house because they contain ‘contaminated’ rubbish.
Fed-up families have had to put up with the eyesore on Campbell Road in Stoke for almost two months.
Now they are demanding that the council removes the overflowing blue bin, grey bin, recycling box, four black bags and a pile of cardboard has been left at the front of the property on Campbell Road, in Stoke.
The bins are full of rotting food that has started to attract flies and residents are concerned it will now attract other pests.
Rebecca Jesson says the pile of rubbish ‘keeps getting bigger and bigger’.
The 24-year-old, of Campbell Road, said: “It started with the blue bin and it’s been growing over the last month.
“I’m assuming that the bin men are refusing to take it, so it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. It’s because of the pile of black bin bags, they won’t take them.
“Everyone has those weeks where the bin is a bit full because maybe it’s been a birthday or you’ve had a lot of deliveries, but you try to keep it as neat as possible.
“It’s not good, there are flies around it because some of the rubbish is a month old, if not longer. We’ve got back alleys here and we don’t want it to start attracting pests.
“I worry about the school kids walking past.
We don’t know what’s in the bins and all it takes is a windy day and it will be all over the pavement.
“It’s a main road and people walk up and down here to go to the supermarket.
“I’m not sure who lives there. The rubbish needs to be taken to the tip, but it depends if they have a car to get there.
“But it needs removing, it shouldn’t just be left on the street.
“Hopefully it gets sorted soon, fingers crossed. It has got out of control.”
Neighbour Mihaela Chirita, aged 45, added: “It looks a mess and there are flies around it. I’d like to see it cleaned up.
“It’s not nice for us to look at, it’s an eyesore. It’s been piling up for a few weeks. It’s not nice at all.”
The Sentinel has been unable to speak to anyone living in the property.
But Stoke-on-trent City Council says it has spoken to the occupier of the property.
Councillor Carl Edwards, cabinet member for housing and the environment, said: “We’ve visited the resident to have a chat and see what the problem is.
“There was some confusion over what could go in the blue bin and we’ve explained clearly to them what items can and cannot go in.
“The resident has agreed to sort out the contents of the blue bin so it is no longer contaminated and we can empty it on the next scheduled collection date. They will also be removing all of the other rubbish and taking it to the tip and we will be making a check early this week to make sure this has happened.”
