‘JUST GO AND TRY ONE!’

Youtube star takes on 24-inch oatcake challenge

AN ‘oatrageous’ oatcake ten times bigger than your average offering is about to be launched.

The whopper has been created by The Oatbakers, in Longport.

The savoury feast includes 10 pieces of bacon, 10 sausages and a special mix of cheese, weighing in at more than 2kg and measuring up at 24 inches.

Although it’s not on the menu yet, Oatbakers’ Andrew Wilton and Jana Greitane recently invited online super eater, Leah Shutkever, to take on the challenge.

Andrew said: “We sell more of our original challenge oatcakes than we do normal ones, so we thought we’d try to make an even bigger one.

We did it as a laugh but we’ve had a great response.

“Leah had been liking some of our posts, so we got in touch and invited her to try it as one of her food challenges. Since she posted the video we’ve been inundated with messages and requests.

“We’re hoping to have an extension towards the end of the year, because we’ve already had local businesses saying that they’d like to go head-to-head on challenges.

“Leah’s had more interaction on that video than some of her others that include big brands like Mcdonald’s and Domino’s people from Stoke-on-trent have been really supportive.

“Once it’s on the menu, it’ll be on a pre-order basis, because it can be quite time consuming to make, and it takes two people to flip it with the big spatula!

“We’re waiting on a few things such as pricing and packaging, but once that’s sorted it’ll be ready to go.”

Competitive eater Leah holds 23 Guinness World Records for her super eating and also appeared on Channel 4’s ‘Battle of the Supereaters’.

Also known as ‘The Shuts’, she documents her challenges and travels on her Youtube channel, where she has 270,000 subscribers.

The foodie recently went to Longport to take on the food challenge.

Leah compared an oatcake to a ‘pimped-up wrap’. She finished in eight minutes and 27 seconds.

She said: “The difficulties are there, but not with temperature. It was the perfect eating temperature, very tasty.

“It has a distinct and very delicious flavour, I can’t even describe it. It’s not what you’d think. My best advice is to just go and try one.”
