A LUXURY eco-lodge hotel at a North Staffordshire beauty spot is preparing to welcome its first guests.

The Tawny is to open in the 70-acre gardens of the sprawling Consall Hall Estate near Wetley Rocks this July for summer staycations.

The multi-million pound site comprises of a series of accommodation types, including shepherds huts, treehouses and boathouses.

There will be a total of 55 rooms available all with outdoor bathtubs and showers.

Guests will also be able to enjoy two restaurants, a top-of-the-range spa with heated outdoor pool and five miles of meandering paths.

The new venture is being spearheaded by Fran and William Scott-moncrieff and Ben and Sarah Reeves, who took on the project to create an economically viable and sustainable future for the gardens three years ago.

Prior to their ownership, the site was the home of engineer, William Podmore, who spent 50 years transforming the gardens which date back to 1246.

Will, managing director of The Tawny, said: “In response to the growing demand, we have been inspired to create a collection of bold eco-conscious structures with sleek, expressive interiors, against a backdrop of stunning natural beauty.

“We’ve spent the last few years transforming the Gardens

(pictured), into a truly unique destination and we cannot wait to begin welcoming guests to The Tawny.”

Each room type is unique and comes with complimentary minibars, Wifi, televisions and yoga mats. A handful are even dog friendly.

The Lookout can sleep between two and six guests and boasts a private deck with outdoor spa bath.

The Treehouses can host up to six guests, while The Boathouses are situated alongside the waterfront.

Meanwhile, the Shepherds Huts have Skandi-inspired interiors with a tin bath on its own private decking, log burner and stargazing skylight.

The Retreats - cedar-clad cabins able to sleep up to eight guests - will launch in 2022.

There is also the Plumicorn Restaurant, housed in the central building which will see chef Chris Alexander offer a menu inspired by Staffordshire and the Peak District.

A second dining space, the Feather

Lounge, will offer a shorter bar menu.

Later this year, The Tawny will unveil The Perch, an intimate space for small groups to experience private dining and access to the chef’s table.

And there will also be a service menu for those looking to dine alfresco.

Other facilities include an outdoor pool and spa treatments.

Chris Hesketh, director and The Tawny project architect, added: “We are delighted to be associated with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“The contemporary building at the head of the gardens makes a statement befitting this extraordinary project, whilst the innovative range of rooms blend within the restored and conserved landscaped garden.

“The new owners’ creative vision will ensure their long-term up-keep and sustainability, and conserve their ecological value.”

On the same site, Foxtail Barns - a luxury wedding venue - is also open for bookings.

Ben said: “Preserving the rural setting and raw beauty of this countryside escape is of the utmost importance to us.

“We have long standing family ties to this outstanding area of natural beauty and we want to do everything we can to safeguard its future. “Our proposal would see the inception of the UK’S first ‘deconstructed hotel’. It will offer all the first-class facilities you expect from a luxury hotel but its core elements are discreetly located around this stunning 70 acre site.

“The wellbeing spa will offer a space to unwind while the new horticulturally inspired wedding venue will be a unique setting for relaxed, romantic weddings.”

One-night stay at The Tawny starts from £230 in the Wildwood Huts, £360 in the Lookout, £400 in the Boathouses, £420 in the Treehouses based on two sharing and inclusive of bed and breakfast.

Rates for the Retreats will be released in late 2021 ahead of their 2022 launch.
