Wendy Sneyd, 81, takes four buses and three taxis in epic M&S Wolstanton trip...

I didn’t realise there was no bus from Hanley to the Wolstanton Retail Park. So this would also affect me, living in Abbey Hulton just as it did to the lady in the article. It’s time to shake up our bus services and get them running a bit more like they were a few years ago.

There’s a noticeable lack of public transport all around, specifically to areas where the big shopping outlets are situated. When Asda first opened at Wolstanton, there used to be a bus service available to shoppers who lived away from the shopping complex. To me, it feels like, if you haven’t got a car, you are limited to access these shopping facilities and, the public transport is a joke. Taxis are available, they are very good. But, it is a veritable marathon to access these places without being a car owner yourself. Well done to this lady, for highlighting this problem.

If they’re closing city centre shops and expect us to go to out-of-town retail parks, at least provide transport for people who need it.

Why don’t they put a bus on that serves both Festival Park and Wolstanton Retail Park on the same trip going from Hanley to Newcastle? Even an hourly service would be better than none.

Since the government subsidy stopped, no company will run buses empty. First are in it to make profit and if buses don’t pay they get taken off or services reduced.
