DEVELOPMENT PLAYERS LOOK TO MAKE MARK IN HOME CLASH
CRICKET: Staffordshire Development XI are in action today when they take on their Cheshire counterparts. The 50-over per side match takes place at Porthill Park and starts at 11am.
It is the second time in a matter of weeks the two sides have played each other after Staffs ran out winners in a recent meeting at Elworth. Staffordshire coaches Greg Willott and Alex Mellor have named a side which includes players with National Counties Cricket Association experience.
Louis Allison, who scored his first Staffordshire half-century in Sunday’s Knockout Trophy win against Northumberland, and current first-team allrounder Jack Redman are both included. Batsman Matthew Morris is also set to be involved as he looks to compile a big score after losing his place for the weekend one-day win.
The experienced Justin Mould skippers the side once more, with Longton’s Jacob Garlick involved in the fixture. Staffordshire: Justin Mould (cpt, Bagnall Norton), Shoaib Akhtar (Bagnall Norton), Matthew Morris (Westhoughton), Louis Allison (Porthill Park), Jack Redman (Audley), Hamaiz Mahmood (Meakins), Callum Hawkins (Moddershall & Oulton), Tom Moulton (Chekcley), Josh Hudson (Leek), Lewis Moulton (Moddershall & Oulton), Jacob Garlick (Longton).
STAFFORDSHIRE Over50s are looking for a third successive County Championship win today. Guy Bulpitt’s side entertain Wales at Milford Hall (1pm) in their latest Group Four match. Staffordshire are currently second in the table behind Wales, who are top on run rate, but have played a game more.
THE draw for the quarterfinals of the Talbot Cup will be live streamed on the North Staffs and South Cheshire League facebook page tonight.
Bagnall Norton, Burslem, Cheadle, Checkley, Hem Heath, Longton, Moddershall & Oulton and Stone SP are the eight teams remaining in the competition.
The draw will be held at Checkley Cricket Club and starts at 7.30pm.
