COMMUNITY CHAMPION AWARD DELIVERED TO DEDICATED STUART
Post office boss went ‘above and beyond’
RETAILER Stuart Morris has won a major award for ‘going above and beyond’ to help champion the community where he works.
Stuart runs the post office in Cheadle and has now earned the accolade of Community Champion in the Midlands.
The awards are an initiative run by The Sentinel’s parent company, Reach PLC, in conjunction with the National Federation of Retail Newsagents.
This initiative highlights and recognises the community values and hard work of the local retailers with many newsagents going above and beyond in their communities.
Mr Morris said: “This is a great award and recognition for all of us who work at Cheadle Post Office .
“It helps to shine a light on the essential role that the post office plays in communities all over the UK.
“Now lockdown is over don’t forget all those small businesses that stepped up to provide essential goods and services, these shops deserve and need your continuing support.”
Mr Morris was also nominated for the recent Newsangels initiative for his exceptional support for his local community during the pandemic.
During lockdown, three of Mr Morris’s staff had to shield, so the others had to manage the increased workload.
Stuart said: “It was like Christmas every day. The queues were enormous as people were sending cards and gifts to loved ones as a way of staying in touch.
“While most people were locking down and furloughed, we were coming in every day and working harder than ever.
“We created a joyful atmosphere in the store and worked hard to comply with all the guidelines to create a safe and enjoyable experience.”
