NEWLYWED Keith Pearce says he is ‘disgusted’ – after his late wife’s mobility scooter was stolen from his garden.

Keith noticed the blue scooter was missing from the rear of his Blurton home earlier this week.

It belonged to his wife Ann, who he married just two weeks ago after doctors told the couple she did not have long to live.

Ann, aged 56, died on October 29, not long after being diagnosed with lung and brain cancer.

Her scooter was usually kept in their Beaconsfield Drive home but was moved into the garden, where it was stored under a tarpaulin, because wedding preparations meant there was no room for it inside.

Keith, aged 55, said: “Ann had problems with walking so she had the mobility scooter for several years.

“Normally it would be in the house but when we got married there wasn’t any space in the house so we had to put it in the back yard under a tarpaulin.

“Then earlier this week I let the dog out and noticed the tarpaulin had moved and when I looked, the scooter had gone.

“It was my wife’s and I was going to keep it as a keepsake. It has been everywhere with her, I have been dismantling it and putting it back together for years.

“It was a big part of her life and there were many happy memories associated with it because it let us go out, we went on day trips and holidays with it. I’m disgusted that someone would take it.”

Keith and Ann, who had been together for 12 years, married at their home on October 21.

The wedding was organised in 48 hours thanks to the Douglas Macmillan Hospice, Leek Weddings and kind donors who responded to a social media appeal.

Keith said: “Since she passed it has been really, really rough. Without the help I am getting I would fall apart. I’m ready to crack as it is and then something like this happens.”

Keith says he did not report the theft immediately because he felt the police would not be able to help, although he now says he intends to contact them.

The scooter is described as a blue,

Scout-type electric scooter which is several years old.

Keith added: “It is old, it would not have any value. I just want it back. If anyone can help get it back, that’s all I want, no questions asked.”
